Epic did not want to take Assault Android Cactus to her store – a game with an average rating of 87 points

Original news: Epic Games Store accepts games in manual mode: so, they say, you can weed out the garbage and saturate the store library only with high -quality entertainment. How to measure the quality of games? According to average estimates! At action Assault Android Cactus Estimates are off, but this Epic It turned out not enough.

The developer told about this on Twitter Assault Android Cactus Sanatana Mishra (Sanatana Mishra). By the standards of a small indie project, the reviews of his game are extremely high: 95 % in Steam and 87 out of 100 at the Switch version on Metacritic. (In fairness, on other platforms, average grades are lower, but Mishra leads as an example to Switch.)

However, when Mishra Filled a form for publication in Epic Games Store, the store refused to him and offered to return about a year later: apparently, then, the site will begin to take much more developers than at the start.

To follow up for far retweeting this part of my rand, i’m not when to get special Treatment, I Just Think Important to Point Out Bad Bad Bad Bad Badach YEARS AGO IS.

Mishra does not want a special relationship and does not seek to denigrate Epic. The developer only believes that its story perfectly reflects the shortcomings of manual selection of games for the store. The same approach Valve Practaged several years ago, to Greenlight and Steam Direct. And then it was a real nightmare: authors Assault Android Cactus Incredibly rejoiced when they won the Intel Level Up reward in 2013, which was relied by a guaranteed pass in Steam.

Yes, Valve Far from and I wrote, writes Mishra. Steam now has big problems with the search for games: users simply cannot effectively find something interesting. AND Mishra has no idea how to solve this problem. But the developer is somewhat disappointed that Epic Until it takes lessons from what she has learned Valve For 16 years of Steam existence.

For reference: Assault Android Cactus -This is an action with a “bullet-Hall” style from above, which supports a cooperative up to four people.

I Guess Its Sort of Appropriate that Epic Are Taking the Exact Same View Valve Had in 2003 When They Launched Steam, SincE The Egs Has ABOUT THET LEVEL OF STEAMS FEATURE Set.

Kinda Wish They Would Havy Learned from Any of the Stuff Valve Had to Learn Over The Last 16 Years

Removing good indie games will not cleanse Steam from bad. To understand this, it is enough to abandon the bias and turn on the brain.

This is not a “problem with the search for games”, but the problem that not all people realize that the entertainment market has changed and for a long time. It used to be the developers on the carpet to publishers to convince them to release a game that, attention, "will like everyone or most". Now the player decides for himself what exactly he should like, and when he understands this and uses the tools that Valve offers, suddenly everything works and no problems. I discovered the whole bunch of games for myself, which I would never have known about, because they are made by loners, the entire advertising campaign of which is limited to the personal blog and the subredredit of his game.

I was always struck by this argument in discussions of solid games. This is well said about games from the phone, since they look like solid games from full -fledged game platforms, and not bad about a solid game from a home platform.

Most of all the innovations of Steam in recent years are algorithms for finding games that allow you not to delve into thousands of crafts from shit and sticks, but to give games that will be interesting to a particular person. This includes the offer of games similar to what you play (if you love strategies, you will offer you strategies. If you love fantasy, they will offer fantasy, and so on), the offer of the games that your friends, sales leaders, games from the developers you know (play the assassin – will offer the Games of Jubisoft). The problem here is that the incentives are needed by a certain knowledge base of your preferences, but even without them you will be offered popular and highly assigned games, not trash. They also offer games recommended by curators (in essence-reviewers) on which you are signed.

As a result, if you actively use Steam, you will present games on a saucer that may be interesting to you. How in a few hours you can only find a trash, if on the main page you are immediately given a list of sales leaders personally, I do not imagine.

But this "indie-fit" helps developers and players. If not for Steam, then most of interesting indie indie over the past 5 years would have passed me by. Yes, Steam contains many bad games, but from all this mountain you can take really interesting projects without any problems.
Games are selected using a numerous Steam audience, at the same time getting some kind of fanbase and reviews. How such a system will work in EGS I have no idea.

The person clearly explained that if desired, there are no problems with the search and selection of interesting projects in Steam. The functionality there is convenient and allows you to add an interesting project to you to your list of desired and with any promotion and under any promotion you receive a notification.
So there are no problems with the search, you just need to make the minimum efforts to choose an interesting game, and not wait for someone to bring you a game for 10 out of 10 on a saucer, despite the fact that you do not even formulate your requirements for the genre or to conditional graphics. The store should not and cannot know for you that you are interested if you are not talking about it.

Grim Dawn and Titan Quest are not known for the deep plot, but for the fact that these are slasers, and if you look for them, both games will easily be found.
Borderlands is not a role -playing game, it is role action, such tag is also. Although all games of this series have a role -playing game, and they are on it.

Let’s say, if you are looking for a specific game and you know its name, it is easier to drive its name into the search, no? And if you are looking for an unnecessary novelty, then it remains to hope that there is such a game at all, and that all the necessary tags have not forgotten to write to it.

Of course, and early access to Satiffactory is certainly better than a well -established game with your base.
For a minute:
Darksiders 3 – 69%
Hello Neighbor – 71%

Before judging, take into account that:
1. EGS now sells mainly new games or future projects. All old projects are those that are distributed for free. (I suppose their grid was decided on the launch)
2. The game is already decent years old and it has been well sold and so. It is unlikely that those who bought her will go to buy it again in EGS.
3. An EGS is a ton of those who want to publish their game, there is obviously some turn.
4. EGS is developing, they need a clear marketing plan and a clear grip of releases so as not to oversaturate the stroke and provide the first developers with the necessary sales. For what a joke I will echo showed at once in 100, let the good games of the past years.
5. He was told to come in a year, judging by what I heard, just a year later, most of the necessary services of the store itself will work and the project release system in the store will work out. Then it will be possible to let a more or less stable flow of games.
6. The author thinks only of himself, he managed to make a successful product and reflect in 2015, when there was no maximum version of all these “magnificent” Steam algorithms.

Of course, I judge without playing, but after watching the page of the game in Steam, it looks like that what the steam has filled up and causes “problems with the search for games: users simply cannot effectively find something interesting”

If you bring the situation to the absolute, then here is the data:
PC platform:
Fortnite (11 Critics) – 81%
Assault Android Cactus (15 Critics) – 79%
XD

Actually, here is a confirmation of how the “unique and cool manual moderation” of the epic will work – a pass for the loot or will read the opportunity to raise a hype. As already noted above, lower -quality projects have already made their way to the Epic store, such as the same Hello Neighbors. So why did not let a better product allow? Yes, because it will not work out at the 2015 game, if the developers agreed to launch their new project with an exclusive at the Epic venue (after paying the nth amount by the latter), and at the same time they would have a parking lot to launch the Assault Android Cactus in the form of a free game for 2 weeks, then another question.

9 reviews quite a lot for Indi Game. The bottom of the mentioned Hello Neighbor 19 reviews with an estimate of 38, which does not prevent her from being in EGS.
And 15 assessments from users once again shows the advantages of Steam with 870+ reviews. =)

I really thought that you, my friend, will write that I am crazy,
However, it turned out that I was actually a verse!
Hehe

The employer will also sacrifice you as one percent of good workers (if you are, of course) to get rid of all the objectionable, well, you just get under the distribution of what you can do.

And if essentially: on many indie projects, small studios \ people work for years, investing their own money and a lot of efforts there. They hope for their projects, and some kind of anon from the Internet will suddenly decide that they are not worthy, because there are other bad games … logical (͡ ° ͜ʖ °)

I have a link to my steam profile here, where you can see a list of games that was formed even before Dota 2 was released, and continues to form so far. Previously, I collected it as far as possible and the desire to play something relevant, later, when sorting by tags appeared in the store, I began to collect interesting things like all sorts of sidelines and simulators of colonies there. And when the recommendations appeared, he began to draw up a list of observations from them (there will be news in the activity tape) and the list of desired, not the whole, of course, but at least half of it gathered that way.

The system claims that I have already viewed 1542 products and of them 414 noted as "not interesting". I don’t remember among all this pile of games that would be a wild tresh or knowingly garbage crap that “clogs the search”, but there are no such games, no, yes, yes in the section “Popular News”, where I try not to go. The worst thing that was found in the recommendations – games in pure Chinese, with a Chinese description and clearly for the Chinese audience, there I wanted to click the "I did not understand" button, but this is not the case. In all other situations, once again, I rely on tags and now I don’t stumble upon all those hundreds of daily output garbage products, which, supposedly, bother everyone.

How to use tags:
1. Find out the number of the right tag on this page.
2. Go on like this. If you have a feeling that there is “not all”, and somewhere there the “pearl” is “hidden”-well, maybe so! But you don’t find it not because thousands of stupid games are bothering you, but because the targets do not spell out the necessary tags that are on the conscience of developers, publishers and past the passing players who create+assign these same tags.
